By The Consent Of The Governed

{Updated and revised: July 10, 2024}

The Proposition:

It makes sense, doesn’t it?

By the consent of the governed. Certainly as freewill agents with the ability under God to choose our own life’s destiny (even if it leads to our ultimate demise and destruction), it can be said without fear of contradiction that the desire of most is to live within a system whose leaders make decisions about our collective future by keeping our expressed “best interest” in mind- at least that’s what we hope for, but in the end, rarely get.

History Is Our Guide

To that end, History, for better or worse, is our guide, as we are taught that America’s forefathers picked a fight with the world’s preeminent superpower over a set of grievances which centered on one specific element: the consent of the governed. They saw the future, didn’t like where they (or their progeny) were headed, and took up arms to make their dreams a reality. They felt freedom from tyranny to be their God-given right, then went literally “all-in”, and were willing to die for it. But they fought as if they knew their destiny was fixed, because the God of Creation was on their side (after all, He is the Author of Liberty and Freedom, and detests those who seek to subjugate any human being under the bondage of economic, cultural, or educational slavery).

So then, let’s take hold of this understanding and consider the modern day battle for freedom as having just begun, for there lay ahead decades of battles for the future identity of a free people throughout the globe, and something much more: something deeper that’s hidden in plain sight, and it all has a crucially important application for today.

2024

This year, 2024, here in America, is a pivotal year, as humanity is in a conflict unlike anything in recent memory. The exponential proliferation of societal turmoil and confrontation is bringing the combatants into full view; for they’ve made their allegiances known, no longer hiding their faces in order to gain ground under the cover of darkness.

But at a time when so many are awakening to this reality, the picture being painted is still a bit murky because the true nature of the conflict is, for those who see only with the natural eye, too burdensome to accept. Yet for the fortunate ones who’ve had their sight tuned to the working of the spiritual realm, the battlefield is as clear as day, and the tactics required to gain total victory, obvious.

The Deeper Meaning

So then what is this all about? What’s the deeper meaning of the matter at hand?

It begins with the view: the foundation of a Christian worldview, as expressed through centuries of doctrinal understanding, based on writings given to us, inspired by the One who created all things. Those writings make it clear that 2 powers are facing off in the ‘unseen realm’ for dominance in the ‘physical realm’ : God, who created all things and has an immense love for us, versus a lesser god (and/or other gods) who, like us, are created beings, but are, however, bent upon our destruction. [Ephesians 6:12]

It’s also about our God-given nature (in this instance not unlike that of the lesser gods) that allows us to make choices, allegiances, and partnerships. Sometimes we choose under the unction of a God-breathed conscience, clearly seeing the options at hand, while at other times we make those choices through the deceptive influences of the enemy. These freewill choices are multifaceted and as different as we are from one another. [Romans 6:16]

The Contract

One very important choice we make as members of democratically established social orders is voting for our legal representatives in some governmental capacity. Legal is a pivotal description for it’s binding in both realms. We make a covenant, an agreement, and we give our ascent to the individual who receives that vote. We, in essence, make a partnership with them, by which we technically bestow upon them our consent to be governed. We give them authority over, not only our lives but our world: our existence.

Consent given to another transfers authority. That is a crucial point, as it applies (whether or not it’s fully comprehended) to both the material and spiritual realities. We literally make a contract with them -those average people who possess human qualities both good and bad- as our authority figures. But it also includes the baggage they carry with them: all their positions on every topic of sociopolitical interest.

If that isn’t enough to motivate you to take a closer look at your choice for a leader, then hear this: the spiritual affiliations and alliances which they’ve consciously or unconsciously made in life, then have permission to become a dominating force in that battle I mentioned above.

The Contract At The Beginning

Let me bring this home even further.

For the self-confessed Christian, who seeks God’s Will above their own, know this: that by casting a vote for anyone whose positions on the most important societal issues run contrary to God’s expressed Nature or Will, you have given your consent to be governed by an entity that directly influences that person: the power behind the power. I know that may sound a bit melodramatic, but reason it through.

In the story of the Garden, when the Adam considered, then obeyed, the words of the serpent and not the Words spoken by God, what happened next? His choice, his act of agreement, literally gave his consent to be governed by the great deceiver; an act which also transferred to us, his progeny.

He signed a spiritual contract that brought about the abdication of his God-given authority and dominion over the tending of the Garden: the earthly dwelling place of God, the Creator. Adam transferred his authority by giving his consent. The “fall of man”, as it’s known, brought about ‘death’, which required that all humankind then live in a chaotic and decaying world, necessitating the appearance of what the Bible termed, the Second Adam (Jesus) who redeemed not only us, but returned the rightful authority and dominion to where it was always intended to be. [Colossians 2:15]

The Contract Today

Fast forward to today and how all this relates.

There is but one issue which, by a simple canvassing of the political posturings, has become the single most important issue of the 2024 Election, and which is, not coincidentally but by design, of paramount importance for those spiritual entities who seek the destruction of humanity: that being abortion.

There’s one political party that appears to be married to this evil practice, making outright demands that we “Restore Roe”, thereby returning the entire nation to unfettered access to the murdering of the preborn. While the other party likewise partners with evil by pandering to us using a double-edged sword approach: that a “15 week abortion ban” is reasonable and necessary to gain victory, and/or “let the States decide” (but forget about any help to publicly promote that abortion is always wrong).

The Choice

And so what is a Christian to do? Certainly, when you take stock of how God feels about those who shed innocent blood (one of the 7 things God hates from Proverbs 6), the Democrat candidate lives in the realm of unacceptable, because abortion is murdering an innocent human life. The candidate for the Republicans, on the issue of abortion, is not much better (although many voices within conservative Christianity think otherwise).

And, when you view “The Choice” as a “lesser of two evils” option, it’s ‘hold your nose and vote’, because “…we’re doing our best with what God has given us”.

Not so. Charles Spurgeon, who is quoted as saying, “Of two evils, choose neither.”, was, and still is, in great company in that regard, as (and here is the most important point to ponder) God doesn’t ask us to partner with evil in order for His Will to be accomplished. On the contrary, we are to shun evil (Proverbs 3:7).

Groups A, B, & C

However, for so many, not voting simply will not do. The only choice for them is Trump. And here’s how they view it:

[While the Christian vote may be divisible into groups, some voters may fall into multiple categories.]

“Group A” says that their candidate must be elected because the number of abortion deaths will be lower if he wins (especially knowing that if the Democrat wins, there’ll certainly be more abortions). How they can actually see into the future to make such an ironclad declaration is uncertain, as the opposite is also likely.

“Group B” says that the abortion issue can be “sorted out” once “our guy” is elected. Really? Have you read the RNC Platform yet? In political history, doesn’t the proverbial “can” almost always get “kicked down the road”? Politicians take the easy way out, and some, if not most, campaign promises are soon amended to accommodate expediency and “poll watching”.

And then there’s “Group C”, populated by those who don’t see the importance of the abortion issue in the first place, as the economy, illegal immigration, crime, and a host of other issues, which (in their temporal view) directly affect the quality of their lives, are the real issues this year…or, for that matter, any election year. So their vote is a lock.

But stop for a moment and consider what you’ve just read about these voting blocks within Christianity. Don’t they all point to the heart of the issue all wrapped up in a neat and tidy package? Through them all, the overriding, time-tested and effective plan of evil makes it’s appearance: we can call it the Edenic Deception.

The Edenic Deception

So here’s what that means:

The deceiver from the Garden, in order to delay the carrying out of his inevitable prison sentence, has to continue his mission. So, into the Promised Land he goes in order to combat the influence of God and God’s remnant.

The ancient inhabitants already there worshiped and revered a lesser god, Molech, who demanded child sacrifice. In return for their consent to be governed, they were promised a better life: a prosperous harvest, favor in conflicts with their enemies, among other things. So they did what so many who are ignorant of the devices of evil have done, they partnered with this god, not truly knowing the enslavement they inherited from their devotion. They signed the contract, they gave their consent. Even the people that God took for His own, flirted with, then gave full commitment to, this god Molech, not realizing that their partnership would lead to the abdication of God’s ideal plan and purpose for them. [Judges 2: 11-23]

And as a result of their hearkening to the voice of deception, they received the wages of rebellion, as did the former residents of the Garden, eons earlier. We read of their circumstances, their issues and solutions, and we marvel at how stupid they were for abandoning the God of Israel and His plan to conquer the evils of their day. We grab onto the sense that all they needed to do was trust and obey the directives He gave them, knowing all along that He had the power to bring about miraculous victories, if only they’d consent to His governance, and shun the choices of evil they faced.

Ask Yourself

So the questions about what course a Believer should take ultimately requires a new perspective on the material/spiritual synergy: a fresh reassessment of what will become the new dynamic which our choices will produce. We all need to ask ourselves:

Is God able to bring about His desired will for us outside the political system (considering the options we’ve been offered)? Will we incur the unintended but unavoidable consequences of defeat if we choose to partner with the voice of evil which says: abortion, in any form, at any point after conception, is somehow reasonable? Will our ability to effectively combat the evil of abortion (and other evils, for that matter) be diminished if we consent to be governed by anyone who expressly partners with the spiritual influence of that lesser god, Molech? And lastly, will giving our consent to be governed by any candidate who partners with an evil this great allow the enemy to regain from us, and our nation, the ground God has already retaken?

Do you see the importance now? Let those questions ruminate awhile.

But should you be inclined to ridicule and consider this a silly exercise for the overly-spiritual, remember that the deceiver is still hard at work trying to subvert the Will of God Most High, the Creator, the One who walked with A&E in the Garden- face to face- and they still consented to be governed by the serpent. Let’s learn something this time, shall we saints, and NOT make the same mistake again. [1 Peter 5:8]
